Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9pre)
Gecko/2008043007 Minefield/3.0pre

In a co-operate WAN where the internet access is restricted, Software Update dont trigger master password screen even though I have set a master password and it will be triggered for all normal web access.

Pre-condition:-
Test should be done on few days old nightly build from
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/

Steps:-
* get a PC on co-operate WAN where the internet access is restricted
  thru windows logon.
* start firefox (few days old nightly)
* set up master password
* navigate to http://www.mozilla.org/
* this prompt userid/password for internet access
* enter userid/password correctly
* user able to visit mozilla.org website
* do REMEMBER PASSWORD

* restart firefox
* navigate to http://www.mozilla.org/ again
* firefox prompt MASTER PASSWORD Screen
* user enter MASTER PASSWORD
* firefox prompts network/windows userid/password prefilled
* user able to click OK and visit mozilla.org website

* restart firefox
* From menu do
  Help > Check for Updates
* firefox prompts network/windows userid/password
  without asking master password !!!

PS:
  Additional  condition :-
  This particular WAN allow user visit HTTPS sites without authentication.
  ie, I am able to visit https://www.mozilla.org/ without network logon
  but for http://www.mozilla.org/it needed special internet access
Product: Firefox → Toolkit
It's generally agreed among UX/Engineering/Product that we don't want to further develop the existing master password functionality, as it's a poor fit for current needs and our current direction in this area.

(Presumably this bug is about authenticated proxy access -- Firefox should start checking/downloading update at some point after you've got working internet access, or the network administrator should be maintaining a centralized/managed install of Firefox.)
