Based on Feedbacks in Hendrix and Forums, we have User Reports (as example http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=657638) of Lost Bookmarks after Updating to Firefox 3 RC 1.

This Bug is for tracking this Problem. I anyone have Steps to Reproduce or other useful information, please provide this information in this bug. This would help us to reproduce and track down this Problem.
Priority: -- → P1
Target Milestone: --- → Firefox 3.1
It appears to be importing from bookmarks.postplaces.html and not bookmarks.html. Can others compare the two files and see if their current bookmarks (now allegedly kept in places.sqlite) look more like the former and not the latter?

bookmarks.postplaces.html support was removed entirely. this likely has nothing to do with contemporary problems of missing bookmarks.
Of the various reports I have seen in Hendrix, here is a breakdown of the various OS's that were reported:

Win XP: 8
Vista: 2
PPC Mac: 1
Intel Mac: 1

In some cases users reported not losing all of their bookmarks but only some.
this is a bit confusing, not sure a fix for 3.0RC1 involving bookmarks.postplaces.html needs to make 3.1
Target Milestone: Firefox 3.1 → ---
this bug is too old and referring to no more supported import sources to have any usefulness todaysingle bugs should be filed for specific cases where we can identify a cause, or get the problematic profile.

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".

In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.

Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
