We need a UI decision on this and also a mockup where to put the mark completed checkbox.

In my opinion the mark completed checkbox should not be placed directly in the alarm dialog because this would clutter the dialog.
I think usability should trump aesthetics. In any case, M$ avoids the issue with a right-click menu.

Has any headway been made on the discussion of what to do with this issue? I believe that my submission Bug 470830 explained a reasonable solution in line with this issue.

I know this is a little old, but it took me YEARS to find the right combination of search words to find it. I've been wanting this ever since the way recurring tasks were handled was changed. My thought was this: what about a configuration option (either something easy to get to or buried in the config editor; I don't care which) that changes the "Dismiss" button to be a "Completed" button? Clicking it would do exactly the same thing as clicking on the checkbox associated with that task. The alarm goes away and the task is marked completed.
