Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.14) Gecko/20080404 Firefox/2.0.0.14
Build Identifier: Thunderbird 2.0.0.14 (20080421)

If you have more than one account, the mail call sound goes off after the first account is processed instead of waiting until they are all done.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start up Thunderbird after clicking on the opening window for working online or offline.
2. Click on get messages icon.
3. Wait until 1st account is finished downloading.
Actual Results:
New mail sound plays.

Expected Results:
No sound. Continue to next account(s). Then when search is complete, if any messages were downloaded, the new mail sound should go off.
Isn't that quote logical? Why wouldn't you want to get notified asap?
1. That is the way the mail notification works in Outlook Express.
2. How much longer would you have to wait until all mail is downloaded? You cannot wait that long?
3. You cannot read/respond until Thunderbird is done processing anyway. So, what would be the point of not waiting?
4. If your going to be that impatient, why not play the sound as soon as the first e-mail is downloaded?
5. Because of all of the above reasons, I thought Thunderbird would have behaved the same way as Outlook Express and so was an unintentional error.

No..! ;)

That might be the case if you use the global inbox, but not for other accounts. Is this bug only meant about the global inbox?

I'm not *that* impatient:) And there needs to be time for junk filtering etc.
Yes, I suppose it would be the global inbox. I have never used any other so I tend to forget that, technically, there is any other kind.
Summary: New Mail Notification Sound Plays After 1st Account, Not After All Are Done → New Mail Notification Sound Plays After 1st Account, Not After All Are Done (shouldn't for global inbox)
Rod, going through the exact flow, how exactly do you want this to behave with respect to global inbox?
Severity: trivial → enhancement
1. Start up Thunderbird after clicking on the opening window for working online
or offline.
2. Click on get messages icon.
3. 1st account is checked/downloaded.
4. Continue until the last account is checked/downloaded.
5. New mail sound plays signifying that you have received mail (from all of your accounts).
In a way, this is related to bug 138095
