Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.16) Gecko/20080702 Firefox/2.0.0.16 Build Identifier: Thunderbird 2.0.0.16 I apologize, but I do not understand most of what you are asking to report a bug. I am not even sure if this is a bug, but it is an annoying problem and this seems the only way to get it addressed as I cannot find anything similar on your support sight. I have tried for three days. My system auto downloaded the latest version of Thunderbird four or five days ago. Since then, when I try and start the program, I first get a message that Thunderbird is installing the latest version. then I get an error message telling me that all components could not be installed and to make sure that all other programs are closed and that I am authorized to install programs. I am the sole person on this computer and it's administrator, so the later is fine. The problem has occurred. The problem happens if I have other programs open or not. After several tries, the program does open, but when new messages are downloaded I get the following error window on the upper left of my screen: XML Parsing Error: syntax error Location: chrome://messenger/content/newmailalert.xul Line Number 1, Column 2: - ***** END LICENSE BLOCK ***** --> This window does not close unless I close Thunderbird and I have to go through the same process over again. I hope that some one can help me fix this problem. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. open Thunderbird 2. open Thunderbird 3. open Thunderbird Actual Results: see above Expected Results: see above installed the upgrade and open without a problem

This can happen if another application opens the .dll to send email such as some webcam software and other applications. Close all applications and try it again, if that doesn't help download and install the full version of Thunderbird and/or try to install in the windows safemode. read more in bug 340535
