User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.1) Gecko/2008070208 Firefox/3.0.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.1) Gecko/2008070208 Firefox/3.0.1

Sometimes I can open 10 or more tabs when researching websites, I then close each tab when I have finished, until no tabs are open then close Firefox 3.01, however next time I try to open Firefox it says it is still running, yet it does not show in Windows Task manager and I have to restart Windows XP Pro to get Firefox 3.01 working again.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to any web site
2. Open ten or more links in new tabs
3. Close each tabs after 5 to 10 minutes, then close Firefox
4 Try to open Firefox again
Actual Results:
Firefox cannot be started because Firefox already running. Restart Windows to clear error.

Expected Results:
Firefox to open as normally
Yesterday 2nd September this problem occurred when closing just two tabs in Firefox 3.01 I have 3GB of RAM and tested Google Chrome which opens 25 tabs at a time without any problems.
I'm using Vista sp 1, Business. When I close Firefox 3.03, Firefox or Internet Explorer will not start. The message is the same, Firefox already running, shutdown Windows. Task Manager the same, no programs running.

When I attempt to RESTART, or SHUTDOWN the laptop, it will not respond, I have to lean-on the Toshiba power button. The restart fails and I have to use a Restore Point to recover.

Help!
John Kasperski
John your PC maybe infected and causing shut down problems.
I discovered two Trojans that were messing up my system. Bitdefender Internet Security 2008 did not detect, Kaspersky IS 2009 did not detect, Spybot S&D did not detect, only the free scanner PC Tools Spyware Doctor found them.
There is a serious problem when using Firefox browser with Vista. When Firefox is closed, a restart of Firefox or IE results with the Firefox already running message even though the Task Manager says it is not. If you do get Firefox or IE running, any operation you try goes into an, I am working icon and just hangs.

The Problem can be fixed by changing the Firefox Profile so that any program Add-ons are removed. These add-ons can arbitrarily can be re-downloaded again for many reasons, most often when Firefox is being upgraded.

This is a real problem, I've seen on two occasions, at two sites, one with home Vista and the other with Business. With every new level of Firefox I am hoping its fixed. Its been seven months, Firefox level 3.0.0.7 and to no avail.

Mozilla, get with it,
John Kasperski

I realize the problem was caused by uncanceled I/O packet requests in Firefox. The problem has been remedied in the later updates.

Thank you,
