following from bug 452711

The Thunderbird Display Preference for color selection is taking up a lot of room for a not repeatedly changed item. Background / foreground colors are often chosen on initial setup but then not changed again after a suitable selection has been found.

Firefox has move their color selection into a separate dialog launched from a button below their font chooser ( see bug 452711 ). This bug is about porting the firefox color chooser code over to Thunderbird.

Other Thunderbird specific items, like the Plain Text color preferences should be moved into this color chooser dialog as well.
Is this a color picker widget that will work on the HTML Toolbar of the Write window? Asking from a UX consistency point of view.
I think the color picker should be a widget with an API that facilitates extensions use for there coloring needs. One that comes to mind is "Quote Color" which with Tb2 can color 5 levels of graphical quote bars.
Bug 845807 implemented Firefox color chooser dialog box for fore/-background. See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=728723&action=diff#a/mail/components/preferences/display.xul_sec1

Plain Text color prefs on this color picker dialog is still needed?
