User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.30) Build Identifier: 2008092414 1.9.0.3188 The automatic update failed to a state where it endlessly loops. It starts and after reaching about 20% of the progress bar it crashes and restarts itself. This can't be stopped. When you start the Mozilla Firefox again while this is going on another Message will pop up: XULRunner Error: Platform version '1.9.0.1' is not compatible with minVersion >= 1.9.0.3 maxVersion <= 1.9.0.3 Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: 1. i 2. don't 3. know Actual Results: Update defunct. Expected Results: Fine Update as usual.
The Firefox installation is broken. A reboot does not recover from this by itself. I guess i'll have to reinstall manually.
(In reply to comment #0) I had the exact same error with the updates from 3.0.2 -> 3.0.3 and 3.0.3 -> 3.0.4. Had to use IE to acess mozilla.org and reinstall each time.

(In reply to comment #3) > does update still crash/fail? Yes, afraid so. Have just had to manually update to 3.5.6, and it's been failing at every stage in between.
well, let's see if you can get a stack trace from the 'crash' using windbg: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/How_to_get_a_stacktrace_with_WinDbg please _attach_ it to this bug, there are two apparent problems: 1. the updater crashes 2. the updater managed to leave things in a bad state #1 interests me more than #2. to investigate #2, you'd use sysinternals.com's procmon to create a log of just firefox and the updater applications (zipped attachment). you should probably do this too.

Please update if you are able to still reproduce the issue. If yes, Please attach the crash stack as mentioned in comment 5.

Apologies. I became frustrated at having to manually update each time, and uninstalled Firefox, switching to Chrome. I've now reinstalled Firefox, and if the issue arises again I'll get the crash stack for you.
