We need to move the restuct the "Character Coding" menu. The current grouping of ISO/Win/Mac etc should break down into logical group and under a more submenu. This is the task A1 in cata/ftang discussion. cata's estimation is BEST:2 days/ MOSTLIKELY:3 days / WORST:5 days for all componment.

This is depend on momoi to give us the list of charset grouping and the list of charsets under each charset group. Both list are due 8/12.

Do you have a design in mind? I thought that the current PR1 hack to work around the no scrolling menu PR1 bug, hardcoded the current categories. If we could push the configuration to .properties files, then it'd be easy for momoi and others to try out different scenarios by editing .properties files in a local install.

The above file contains the names of 6 language groups and their members in terms of encoding UI names. The groups are: West European, East European, East Asian, SE & SW Asian, Middle Eastern, Others. (Thanks to bobj, ftang, and amasri for comments on the proposal.)
Fixed. The work for this bug had 3 parts: 1) Move the submenus down one level 2) Change the cpp code from an ugly hack to a more decent solution 3) Place the actual charsets from the groups in prefs (they were hardcoded in the original hack) It's all done now.
