I would like the option to right-click on an already-saved password, and have Firefox present me with the option to forget about that password immediately. This functionality currently exists, but is somewhat hidden four menus deep in the tools -> options -> security -> saved-passwords dialog.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. None (Feature request)
2.
3.

Expected Results:
Right-clicking the password field should present me with an option to delete a saved password if there's one there.

mhoye - I trust you know about "shift-delete" providing this functionality in password completion drop downs?

Having some visible UI to do it as well makes this more discoverable, I think.
"mhoye - I trust you know about "shift-delete" providing this functionality in

Johnath: I do not understand your claim. Shift-delete doesn't do anything magic on any webpage I've got a saved password in. It might work in dropdowns, but I can't remember the last time I saw one of those. They represent a small fraction of the password-remembering I use day to day.
Mike, you get the dropdown when you have more than one username/password for any given site. For me hitting delete (on the username) gets rid of the entry. Once it's prefilled though, you probably have to:

1) Press the down-arrow key (to get the dropdown).
2) highlight the username and press delete.
This belongs in Password Manager.

Where do you want to be able to right-click in order to remove a saved password? On an <input type="password"> on a web page that Firefox just filled in for you? (I'm confused by "dialog" in this bug's summary.)
To clarify, what I want is: where I see a pre-filled-in password ( <input type="password">, or any other passwordy thing that Firefox touches, like the popup for ftp sites; I don't know if that's the same thing) I would like to right-click on the box that contains the password and tell Firefox "forget this, now."
This is an assigned student-project from NUS for CS3108 08/09 Semester 2. Hendrik, it'll be cool if you could post some progress (if any) on this bug.

So... I'm not so sure this is a good idea. Maybe even WONTFIX.

If someone's looking for a password management related project, I'd be happy to suggest some other bugs whose acceptance into Firefox would be more straightforward.

Hendrik's already working on it - he should have some concept code soon - in case it isn't needed on the main trunk (which warrants a WONTFIX), he'll implement it as an extension. We can then WONTFIX it as necessary.
An extension created for this request. Please feel free to comment or feedback.. Thank you..
It seems that extension cannot be attached here. I wasn't aware of that. Will add it to the addons.mozilla.org. Sorry about that.

Hi, I have added the extension to addons.mozilla.org at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/11115. Please feel free to comment and give suggestions. Thank you.
This just doesn't seem like a good way to improve password management...

* It's not all that discoverable.
* Removing a specific saved password isn't a common operation, so a context menu isn't a great fit.
* It's a bit clumsy to use. You have to visit the page, have the password filled in, and then you can clear it.

We've been talking about moving site-specific notifications/actions into the site identity button menu (aka doorhangers), that feels like a better place for this kind of thing.

Thus, for those who would like this functionality, Hendrik has the extension at

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/11115

as he mentions in comment #13. Please move any discussion on the extension over to the addons site.
