Details

Populating Places for the first time with a large set of sources and people horks the UI thread for many seconds (enough so that Firefox presents the dialog box about a slow-running process several times).  The code that does this population should ensure that doesn't happen, f.e. by sleeping after creating each place.  See the river view's use of the JavaScript Strands library for one good way to do this.
