Reproducible: Always

I tested this with the latest trunk build on Windows XP and indeed, it creates a new window (Bug 475066).

Well, Ria Klaassen confirmed this behavior, which is definitely wrong, and that's why the status of this bug was changed to UNCONFIRMED? I'd really like to see the lost functionality back, because dragging a tab to create a link or to send a link via text field (e.g. in IM client) is really useful...

Because this is the expected behaviour from bug 475066 (see comment #1), this bug is almost certainly WONTFIX (although that is not for me to say). The new detach tab functionality has been changed a few times during the beta cycle but is probably now near its designed state. To save a shortcut you can drag the favicon from the location bar to the desktop; To drag the URL from the navigation bar is bug 478070.

Well, I know about the favicon, but it's a lot smaller than the tab and therefore less comfortable. What about this proposed solution: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=497841#c2 This seems very reasonable to me, as it would keep both functions. :-)

This bug has had the CLOSEME tag for several weeks and the date in the tag is far gone. If the reporter can still see this issue, Please retest with Firefox 3.6.x or later and a new profile (http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles). Then please remove the closeme tag in the whiteboard, mark the bug against the proper version and comment on the bug.
