Reproducible: Couldn't Reproduce Steps to Reproduce: Not reproducable, except in so far as restarting firefox gives the same message. killall firefox firefox & This is something I routinely do (roughly daily) when firefox memory usage bogs down.

Problem goes away if you do: gconftool-2 --shutdown gconftool-2 --spawn The page referenced in the bug message fails to include the --spawn. This message really should tell us what server it is trying to contact. You could probably reproduce this by suspending gconfd-2 (if you kill it it might restart). Why are you making firefox dependent on the monstrosity that is gnome? Not only are gnome daemons unstable but the package dependencies are a mess and sooner or later apt-get doesn't want to install new packages, do an upgrade, or do a dist-upgrade without removing gnome.
