I downloaded firefox 3.5r2 for linux from http://www.mozilla.com/products/download.html?product=firefox-3.5rc2&os=linux&lang=en-US

When I run firefox from the expanded directory with ./firefox or ./firefox-bin, my "Help">"About Mozilla Firefox" panel has exactly the same information:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009060403 Red Hat/3.0.11-2.el5_3 Firefox/3.0.11

as when I run the version I have in /usr/local/...


So, how can I tell when I'm really running FF 3.5?

You'll need to shut down the old version of Firefox if you want to run the new version.

(unless you pass some command line parameters, see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Opening_a_new_instance_of_Firefox_with_another_profile if you want details)
