po and faq.php files have been created for the French translation.

http://viewvc.svn.mozilla.org/vc/projects/mozillaservice.org/trunk/web/application/locale/fr/
Blocks: 500840
This is the first part of the French localization of the site. (~ 50%)
This is really hard to localize blindly long Web pages in .po format without context. Looking each time to the online web pages is not an option.
By the way, should we also localize pages/faq.php ?
(In reply to comment #1)
I will check into SVN.

Cédric have you used mozilla's svn before? We can get the site setup to auto-update fr very quickly, so you can see your work.

Anything else that would help make it easier?

Yes Please translate pages/faq.php.

Thanks for your help!
Assigning to Cédric, thanks for your help!

Hi,
"Idealist" partner is "hardcoded" in the .po file. Shouldn't it be a variable instead?
Good catch. Sorry about that. I've changed the code, you can svn up. It will be on stage in a few minutes.
I noticed a syntax error in the .po file: there is a missing ">" in string:

Fostering a healthy ecosystem for <a href='%s'open source and free
culture</a>\n
communities.
Good find. Fixed. Please svn up. Thanks again.
messages.po and faq.php are finally totally localized!
My fellow team mates will make some reviews then.
I will close this bug when the proofreading will be done.

By the way, in the faq.php page, there is still "Idealist" hardcoded in id="need-help-someone"
The faq.php is all "hardcoded". I believe Idealist is the correct partner for fr.
Other localizes will edit this to their preferred partner.

Thanks for the fast turn around Cédric and team!
The FAQ page isn't displayed on the stage site, though translated.
I'm waiting for the flyer's source to localize it.
Note: I won't be available next week to do this, so it would be good to have it before Monday.

Hi all: We have everything we need now for the site to go live, except for review :)

Can folks take a look over it? We'd like to get this live this week.

Thanks so much!

The text in FR looks good. The FAQ seems to be uploaded now :)

Perhaps in the "Learn More" section in FR, the links to Mozilla.com and the Mozilla Manifesto could link to the FR versions.

Fantastic job guys !!!
Everything looks fine except:

- I agree with William, the links to mozilla.com and the manifesto should link to the French versions.
- I noticed that the site address of idealist.org has been localized into "idéaliste.org"! We never localize sites' addresses (apart from adding a /fr in the url). We should let "idealist.org" as is in the localized version.
Plus idéaliste.org would lead to a 404.

Apart from this, it's ready to go live.

Hey there: Re. idealiste.org, Idealist has asked us to refer to them as idéaliste.org and we've done so on the partner page and "Learn More." The links lead to their French pages. Can we leave this as is?
Thanks Mary...it should be Idealiste.org (no accent because the domain doesn;t accept accents). We use diferent domains for different languages: idealist.org for English, Idealistas.org for Spanish and Idealiste.org for French. Thanks!
(In reply to comment #15)
> What are the fr links? Are the following correct:

Yes, these links are corrects.
Hi all: Please let us know when the site is ready to go live. Austin and I won't do anything until we get the "ok." Thanks!
Hi all!

My name is Pablo, I'm from Idéaliste.org, the French version of Idealist, and I'm very proud and excited to be part of Mozilla Service Week. This is a wonderful idea and initiative that I'm sure that will help a lot the improvement of our communities.

I would like to congratulate Cedric for his amazing work on the French site. Then, I would like to present some corrections and suggestions on the text.

1. As I could see here there is a little misunderstanding about the link to the French Idealist site.

It's http://www.idealiste.org and http://idealist.org/if/mozservice09/fr/Home/default (for the mozilla/Idéaliste site). Note that the text of the link is Idéaliste or Idéaliste.org (with accent, the link doesn't have any).

In several part of the MSW site there is a confusion between Idealistas (the Spanish site) and Idéaliste, especially on this page : http://mozillaservice.stage.mozilla.com/learn_more/volunteer/fr_FR

Termes et Conditions

IMPORTANT: Please be aware that "communauté" (that we translated here by "collectivité") is a very sensitive word in France, often with a negative value when it's employed for "the people with whom I'm leaving". In such case, it has the sense of a very closed group of person. It's not negative for specific communities such as the Mozilla Community.
Suggestions for http://mozillaservice.stage.mozilla.com/learn_more/index/fr_FR

First paragraph:

IMPORTANT:

communauté = collectivité

association = organisation -> "association" is a France related term and can't be used if we address the site to quebecers. "Organisation" is used by both groups.
Suggestions for http://mozillaservice.stage.mozilla.com/learn_more/volunteer/fr_FR

Red box
Recherchez des missions bénévoles sur le site de notre partenaire.
Rechercher sur Idéaliste -> on the version, it's Idealistas' with a link to the spanish site. The French link is http://idealist.org/if/mozservice09/fr/Home/default

First paragraph

IMPORTANT:

communauté = collectivité

opportunité de volontariat = mission bénévole -> this the terminology of Idéaliste, but please note that "bénévolat" and "bénévole" are the right translations of "volunteering" and "volunteer", "volontariat" and "volontaire" are wrong because they have a different meaning (wiht a sense of something PAID)
(In reply to comment #20)
I think all of Comment#20 are technical issues. I've opened up Bug#510354 to track this. No work is need from the fr team... but their input would be valued on this separate bug.

I'm currently travelling. I will take care of comments #20 to #23 Sunday evening CET.
Hi Cedric: Appreciated :) We would really, really like to announce the FR site in our big media push on Tuesday the 18th so we would love to finalize it on Monday, the 17th.

Thanks for all of your hard work :)

Hi Mary. I'm just back from travelling. Too late to address Pablo's comments right now, but all the potential changes will be in the SVN repo by Monday afternoon.

I agree with you Pablo on this, but we can't use "votre collectivité" neither. At the most we can use "la collectivité". I have to look if this choice is appropriate in the context.

Agreed. It was a word-for-word translation and I have to figure out a better wording. Not really easy to localize though...

OK. I didn't think about our Canadian cousins :-)

Pablo, I will look more deeply into your suggestions tomorrow and will make the changes where needed.

I will post a comment in this bug to mention the svn revision to use.
Hi Cedric, thank you so much for your attention to our suggestions!

About "votre communauté", waht do you think of "votre quartier"?

:)
Thanks guys! Looking forward to wrapping this up tomorrow :)
(In reply to comment #28)
I think I adressed all the comments.

> About "votre communauté", waht do you think of "votre quartier"?

I chose "quartier", "région", "voisinage", etc. where it was possible.

For "Stories & Inspiration", I chose "Témoignages", which is roughly what this section is about.

Revision 49259.
Hi all: With this last change are we ready to go? Let us know!
(In reply to comment #31)
Sure, I forgot to tell it's ok for me.
Hi Cedric, the corrections that you made to the tranlsation are great!

I just want to underline some "oublis" that maybe you hadn't have time to see...

* An important one concerns the volunteer page : http://mozillaservice.org/learn_more/volunteer/fr_FR

The Red call to action box says : "Recherchez des opportunités pour les volontaires sur le site de notre partenaire." It should be : "Recherchez des missions bénévoles sur le site de notre partenaire."

Again, on the same page, in the text the title "Trouvez une opportunité de volontariat" should be "Trouvez une mission bénévole".
I would suggest in the paragraph below this title :
Si vous cherchez des idées, cherchez des missions sur Idéaliste, le site de notre partenaire. Vous pourrez peut-être en trouver une dans votre région ou dans une autre, dans une aide à distance (pour rédiger un tutoriel ou offrir un conseil, par exemple).

Volontariat => bénévolat ; volontaire => bénévole

* A little detail in the home page :

Is corrected "promesse de participation" in the link but not in the title that is still "promesse d'assistance".

Thanks again Cedric for your work and patience :-)
(In reply to comment #33)
All the comments have been addressed.
Please push onto the production site the revision 49495.
When your happy with Phase 3 work and your team has tested it on stage, please update your bug with "phase 3 sign off". Thanks. We are working towards a 11:59pm release tonight, in roughly 15 hours.

Sites will be left on phase 2 copy until they sign off on phase 3 work.

Thanks for all your time and hard work.
