Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1) Gecko/20090701 Ubuntu/9.04 (jaunty) Shiretoko/3.5
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1) Gecko/20090701 Ubuntu/9.04 (jaunty) Shiretoko/3.5

I have the "Recent Tags" folder on my bookmarks toolbar. When I try to drag&drop an tag from this folder to the bookmarks toolbar itself it doesn't work (doesn't show up). Instead there is an error displayed in the error console.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Put "Recent Tags" special folder on your bookmarks toolbar if it isn't there already
2. Tag an bookmark if you dont' already have one that is tagged
3. Drag&Drop a single tag from the "Recent Tags" folder onto the bookmark toolbar
Actual Results:
Tag doesn't show up, instead this exception is logged:

Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80070057 (NS_ERROR_ILLEGAL_VALUE) [nsINavBookmarksService.getFolderIdForItem]" nsresult: "0x80070057 (NS_ERROR_ILLEGAL_VALUE)" location: "JS frame :: file:///usr/lib/firefox-3.5/components/nsPlacesTransactionsService.js :: placesMoveItemTransactions :: line 570" data: no]

Expected Results:
The tag should show up in the bookmarks toolbar.

Drag&Drop also doesn't work in the bookmarks library ("Organize Bookmarks"). It does work via right-click copy/paste.
Version: unspecified → 3.5 Branch
Works for me
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; it; rv:1.9.1) Gecko/20090624 Firefox/3.5

Try safe mode: http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
I did try it with safe mode on, same problem:

Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80070057 (NS_ERROR_ILLEGAL_VALUE) [nsINavBookmarksService.getFolderIdForItem]" nsresult: "0x80070057 (NS_ERROR_ILLEGAL_VALUE)" location: "JS frame :: file:///usr/lib/firefox-3.5/components/nsPlacesTransactionsService.js :: placesMoveItemTransactions :: line 570" data: no]
just for completion, could you try testing in a new profile?
http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/profile#new
I did, also with safe mode on to be sure, but same error.

I should perhaps mention that I'm using the Ubuntu Firefox package from the ubuntu mozilla security team, but the changelog mentions nothing important:

firefox-3.5 (3.5+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.04.1) jaunty-security; urgency=low

  [ Fabien Tassin ]
  * New upstream release taken from tag FIREFOX_3_5_RELEASE
  * Bump Depends/Build-Depends for xulrunner-1.9.1(-dev) to >= 1.9.1
    - update debian/control
  * Bump EM_TRANSLATION_{MIN,MAX}_VERSION and MaxVersion/MinVersion
    (from application.ini)
    - update debian/rules
Also works for me - 3.5.1 - linux.

Can you try under 3.5.1?
I can't repoduce under Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.2pre) Gecko/20090722 Shiretoko/3.5.2pre.

This looks like bug 484489, which I can reproduce, but Recent Tags and dragging bookmarks around library WFM.
It works for me under Windows with 3.5.1, I'll try it with Linux (Laptop not here at the moment).
No, still doesn't work under Linux:

Build identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1) Gecko/20090701 Ubuntu/9.04 (jaunty) Shiretoko/3.5.1

Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80070057 (NS_ERROR_ILLEGAL_VALUE) [nsINavBookmarksService.getFolderIdForItem]" nsresult: "0x80070057 (NS_ERROR_ILLEGAL_VALUE)" location: "JS frame :: file:///usr/lib/firefox-3.5.1/components/nsPlacesTransactionsService.js :: placesMoveItemTransactions :: line 570" data: no]

I get the same error when I try to reproduce bug 484489 which Drew mentioned.
Can you try to recreate with the mozilla build of firefox - not the ubuntu one?

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".

In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.

Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
