We're planning on going live with the new www.mozilla.org site on Monday, 8/24. The staging site is at www-stage.mozilla.org. Steven and Sam can provide more details about how we'd like the staging site and production site to work together once things go live. If there is any additional information you need in advance to get things ready, please let us know.

Basically... We'd like to keep www-stage live and update it every x minutes -- preferably 5 or so, but there might be limitations due to the number of files. We'd then like to replace the current www.mozilla.org (maybe move it for a time if that's easy) with what's in SVN right now and update that site every y minutes -- I think 20 is a good number here. Currently, this isn't as complicated what we do with mozilla.com in that we don't have a stage -> production environment, but we would like some amount of staging to take place. Reed might have other ideas, so I'll let him weigh in if he wants.

I'd like to do this Tuesday during our normal maint. window. Is there a good reason to not do it then?

We could do this Tuesday if that works better for IT. The reason for doing it Monday is that this has been delayed and we're wanting to get it up as soon as possible. As for the staging site, it would be nice to have a way to build something that doesn't go automatically live at some point. We can tweak the way stage works (I assume) after things launch though.

Updating summary to reflect date change. For downtime, can you provide an estimate for how long the window will be so we can announce it?

Windows are usually 7pm - 11pm. I'm not sure what the scope of this change means so I can't yet say when the start time will be and how long mozilla.org will be offline.

In terms of helping define the scope of this change, are there a list of questions we can answer to clarify things?

Looks like it's no more complicated that changing the webserver doc root. Probably no more than a couple minutes but I'll announce more like 15.

The cron job from Bug 512232 will have to be setup on the live site for launch too.

FWIW, tonight I tested layout, links, validation, post-launch -- looks pretty good; a layout issue right now due to the missing feed, but nothing else major.
Verified FIXED; site's been live since: http://www.mozilla.org/
