the softkb on the n900 covers the whole screen and doesn't allow for awesomebar matching or even entering a URL.  The only option is to use the hard keyboard.

For better or worse, this is likely the only way it works

that might be a new reality.  I just wish we could use it to enter a URL.

This works for the maemo browser and all of their applications, it should work on ours. What's the reason it can't work on our browser, Mark?

it does enter in a url on the n900 when you are visiting it from a website.  it however does not respond to softKB when you are entering an URL from the awesomebar pane.  

Repro:
1) visit awesomebar pane
2) click the awesomebar
3) Verify softKB doesnt open up.

Tested on 20100510 nightly build on n900

Yes.
Mozilla/5.0 (Maemo; Linux armv71; rv:2.0b12pre) Gecko/2010208 Firefox/4.0b12pre Fennec/4.0b5pre

1) placing the device in portrait
2) visit the awesome page
3) click on the awesomebar
Actual: VKB does not appear.
Expected: VKB appears.
