Sorry if this is the wrong queue (I'm not sure where stuff like this is supposed to go) - would it be possible to install the Markdown extension for Mediawiki, so that people (like me) who suck at the mediawiki syntax can use Markdown instead? http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:MarkdownSyntax

This is WONTFIX, which is all fine and good, but a reason why (maintainability, compatibility, stability, capriciousness, etc) would be nice, especially for people like me who will otherwise whinge incessantly about MediaWiki's shitty syntax.

I talked with IT and part of webdev. The consensus was, this plug-in wouldn't be discoverable/useful to many people, and would add extra maintainability/stability worries. If enough people want this we will definitely reconsider.

I can't speak for the company, but I know of at least 4 people in the Toronto office (and maybe more, I haven't done a survey) that would benefit from this. If discoverability is an issue, we could (oh, the irony) put up a wiki page on the intranet explicitly spelling out one's syntactical options.
