If you compose a mail that contains chars that cant be recoded into the chosen Char coding, you'll get an warning. The warning window is modular to the 3pane window and not the compose window.

I don't think we do anything special for this alert. Same kind of alert as
"message was not saved to sent folder". What is the desired behavior?

This bug is about the warning window coming up on top of the Mailbox main window rather than on top of the Composer window. Since the warning is about the composition, it is strange that when the warning comes on, the composer window is put away and the Mailbox window (3-pane) becomes the window against which the warning dialog window appears. This is most probably generic to any warning dialog when the composer window is open, not just this one. See the image of this problem attached below.

Well, I tried to send a message without anything in the Subject field. A warning dialog came up but it appeared against the Composer window as expected. I guess the confirmation/warning dialog window mentioned in this bug might be different in this regard. I was going to send this back to jean-francois but maybe there is something special about the confirmation dialog here. Anyone with an idea about this?

Tried to reproduce by adding some Chinese characters in two emails where for the first one I set the encoding to "Arabic (Windows)" and for the second one to "Central European (Windows)". Neither when pasting the characters nor when sending the email did I receive a warning regarding the character encoding. Any better way to test this? As mentioned by Katsuhiko in comment 6 a warning regarding an empty subject line appeared above the composer window. Tested on macOS 10.11.
