All my autocomplete form entries seem to have been lost when updating from 3.5 to 3.6b3 and then again when updating from 3.5b3 to 3.6b4.

Do you have browsing history disabled or set to 0 days? Probably a dupe of bug 528770, then.
i have browsing history set to 21 days so i don't think it's a dupe of 528770
really sorry but please ignore this 'bug'. somehow i had managed to tick the 'clear history when browser closes' box... no idea how i did it (unless THAT is the bug when upgrading?)
