When I type in the URL of a website without ".com", the browser immediately went to a search for what was typed in the URL bar. This happens even though there is only one suggestion left in the drop-down menu. The past version(s) would go to the site specified without ".com". For example, in the past entering "addictinggames" would lead directly to AddictingGames.com. However, it now leads to a search (the IP's search) for "addictinggames".

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a new tab
2. Type in "addictinggames" (or similar for any other site, exclude the ".com")

Actual Results:  
The browser re-directed to an IP search for 'addictinggames'.

Expected Results:  
The browser should re-direct to AddictingGames.com

That's probably done by your ISP (if it hijacks DNS failures) - do you mean that with "IP's search" ? Or maybe OpenDNS, if you happen to use that for your DNS lookups (it redirects to Google on a failure).

Note that Firefox was never adding the .com automatically, it would only try the Google "I'm feeling lucky" search, which would redirect you to the first result of a normal Google search. In most cases, this would indeed be the correct site (I'm indeed going to addictinggames.com). Or it could have been have been the regular Google result page if there were multiple possibilities (I end up there if I search for addictinggame, without the S), which might also be what you see.

Note that if you see the drop down menu even with a single result, you will not go there, unless you select that result.

Oh okay that makes sense. And for me the past versions went to google and used the I'm feeling Lucky function. But this version sends me to Comcast's searchpage (the IP).

OK, if you are getting comcast's search, you need to contact them and request to opt out of it. Nothing firefox can do about that issue.

Comcast is actually the best known example of an ISP that by default redirects on a DNS failure.
