I have selected multiple events in the list view and I want to assign them a category with one (or two) mouseclicks, but without opening each event. Please implement a function to assign all selected events a category in the list view

Sounds reasonable. I was quite sure we had a bug for this, but couldn't find it. We might want to add this to the context menu and also to the "Events and Tasks" menu in Lightning.
