Crash Data
crash [@ memcpy | _NLG_Return2] #30 crash for thunderbird 3.0.1 asuth, whatever this issue was for FF apparently got fixed in FF 3.5.6/gecko 1.9.1.6. Should we therefore expect to see no crashes in thunderbird 3.0.1? no crashes for firefox 3.6.x. firefox crashes extremely low for 3.5.5, and seem to have stopped after FF 3.5.5 https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/list?product=Firefox&query_search=signature&query_type=exact&query=memcpy%20|%20_NLG_Return2&date=12%2F20%2F2009&range_value=4&range_unit=weeks&do_query=1&signature=memcpy%20|%20_NLG_Return2 bp-7ba06727-a505-499b-97c0-430822100121 TB 3.0.1 continually crashes upon opening 0 ntdll.dll memcpy 1 winmm.dll _NLG_Return2 2 thunderbird.exe nsSound::OnStreamComplete widget/src/windows/nsSound.cpp:127 3 thunderbird.exe nsStreamLoader::OnStopRequest netwerk/base/src/nsStreamLoader.cpp:108 4 thunderbird.exe nsBaseChannel::OnStopRequest netwerk/base/src/nsBaseChannel.cpp:680 5 thunderbird.exe nsInputStreamPump::OnStateStop netwerk/base/src/nsInputStreamPump.cpp:576 6 thunderbird.exe nsInputStreamPump::OnInputStreamReady netwerk/base/src/nsInputStreamPump.cpp:401 7 xpcom_core.dll nsOutputStreamReadyEvent::Run xpcom/io/nsStreamUtils.cpp:111 8 xpcom_core.dll nsThread::ProcessNextEvent xpcom/threads/nsThread.cpp:521 9 xpcom_core.dll NS_ProcessNextEvent_P objdir-tb/mozilla/xpcom/build/nsThreadUtils.cpp:247

same stack as ntdll.dll@0x22333 #31 crash for 3.0.1 combined totals makes the ranking #15
Keywords: topcrash
Summary: crash [@ memcpy | _NLG_Return2] → crash [@ memcpy | _NLG_Return2] and [@ ntdll.dll@0x22333] / winmm.dll / nsSound
Some new info - crashes seem to be related to the downloading and inloading of mail - each crash can be traced back to the moment mail enters the Inbox.

I am experiencing the same symptoms as described here, with Thunderbird 3.0.3 crashing each time it is opened and when downloading and indexing mail.

does it crash if you turn off sound on new mail?
(In reply to comment #4) > does it crash if you turn off sound on new mail? Dunno, never had the sound turned on in the first place...

I don't yet know, but have turned off my sound and will comment back soon.

I have just opened TB3 with sound turned off and it appears to be stable - no crash as yet and I would have expected one by now.
More or less same here - sound was already off, but I turned off notifications as well, and that did the trick. Not a problem, just hooked the incoming to BIFF and I still get to know when my mail comes. Seems that there is something buggy about sound and notifications, and that needs to be addressed in next release....

memcpy | _NLG_Return2 is win7 only, still very much topcrash. although conservatively at least 10% are quick repeat crashes from the same people. bp-fe710074-e66b-4882-9607-254e12101104 v3.1.6 (sph) tentatively, http://gsfn.us/t/12l84 reports this. Firefox has a few crashes as well. But none are trunk that I can find bp-64173616-0c89-4625-89f5-e46882101031 v3.6.12 0 ntdll.dll memcpy 1 winmm.dll _NLG_Return2 2 xul.dll nsSound::OnStreamComplete widget/src/windows/nsSound.cpp:199 3 xul.dll nsStreamLoader::OnStopRequest netwerk/base/src/nsStreamLoader.cpp:125 4 xul.dll nsBaseChannel::OnStopRequest netwerk/base/src/nsBaseChannel.cpp:680 5 xul.dll nsInputStreamPump::OnStateStop netwerk/base/src/nsInputStreamPump.cpp:578 6 xul.dll nsInputStreamPump::OnInputStreamReady netwerk/base/src/nsInputStreamPump.cpp:403

The signature memcpy | _NLG_Return2 is still showing up for Thunderbird only. Sitting at #68 for 8.0. Removing the top crash keyword. Can't find either of the other 2 signatures.

[@ nsSound::OnStreamComplete]

Is this our fault? Or the OS? Substantially more than half of crashes are within 30 seconds of startup
