WARNING! The given URL is _definitely_ NSFW; it displays a tiled image of gay porn and proclaims loudly that you’re looking at gay porn. It also locked my browser, and it might be doing other bad things (TM).

This is somewhat related to bug #59314, though it’s not the same: in this case, the modal dialogs are NOT JS alerts. The page appears to try to open URLs with many kinds of protocols, in a loop. At least my version of FF doesn’t know how to open “news:” URLs. I got stuck with a barrage of messages from FF claiming this, which made it impossible to close the tab (or do anything else but kill FF). Luckily my network connection is slow enough that I could close the tab before it loaded after I resumed my session, so I didn’t lose my other tabs.

Regardless of what solution is found for dealing with alert() abuse, FF should _never_ use modal dialogs for cases like this. A modal dialog only makes sense if the application is not usable until the dialog is “dealt with”, which is certainly not the case when opening a new page.

Reproducible: Always

I marked this as severity “critical” because it fits the description in the dialog: FF is no longer usable (hangs, for all intents and purposes), _and_ you can lose data (anything in other tabs, your session depending on settings). I normally wouldn’t think of it as critical, but I’m just doing what Bugzilla asks.

I’ll also attach an archived copy of the page, in case it goes away.
I got this with “wget http://lm.loldongs.eu/” just before posting this report.

I'm currently developing an ASP application for an intranet. One of the dialogs we're working on display an HTML popup to show some options for a form.

I hadn't noticed that I can't even switch tabs when the modal window is open. (Running Firefox 7.0.1 on Windows 7 Home Premium)

Modal windows should be "per-tab" modal so that at least I can switch tabs, minimize the window or work on other stuff.

IMHO, the current behavior is a serious usability problem.
Marking a bunch of bugs in the "Embedding: APIs" component INCOMPLETE in preparation to archive that component. If I have done this incorrectly, please reopen the bugs and move them to a more correct component as we don't have "embedding" APIs any more.
