This is a clone of bug 533640, extended to the RSS feed account type. That bug has already been cloned to address the same issue with POP3 accounts, but the bug still occurs for RSS feeds.

The contents of RSS folders with colons in the title are emptied when upgrading from Thunderbird 2.x to 3.x. This is a dataloss bug.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a new Thunderbird profile using 2.0.0.x and subscribe to two RSS feeds: one with a colon in the title (such as http://isc.sans.org/rssfeed.xml) and one without (such as http://rss.slashdot.org/Slashdot/slashdot).
2. After loading the stories, quit Thunderbird and launch Thunderbird 3.0.3.
Actual Results:
You will find that the folder for the RSS feed with the colon (SANS ISC) is empty, and the one without a colon (Slashdot) still has its stories.

Expected Results:
All RSS folders should still have the same stories they had in Thunderbird 2.x, and possibly new stories.

I tested this starting from Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 and 2.0.0.24, upgrading to 3.0.3, 3.0.4 (first candidate build), as well as the latest nightly builds (1.9.1, 1.9.2, and trunk). I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.2.

the colon and/or slash in the title (hence folder name) is handled, but it may have been an issue with the several leading spaces in the feed's title (which exist even today as it is autogenerated poorly). however, feed title leading/trailing space issues have been fixed only recently, in bug 547543 (Tb13).

if you can test/reproduce folder problems with feed titles containing non alphanumeric chars on a Mac with Tb13 or higher, please open a new bug. there have been a great many changes to feeds processing in Tb12-14. thanks.
