All the java addons available from Mozilla addons are out of date.

I searched sun.com and found a whole bunch of pages that looped and twisted around it but no simple way to find out what to do. I eventually did it after several loops and having to turn off my firewall yet stay connected to the net - dumb way to encourage people to behave - not what I expected from Sun.

It would be great if an addon did this and used an up to date Java, because Firefox 3.6 is very different in its handling of Java.

Also, Sun's help system is saying things that are not good and don't seem to be true about Firefox.

Firefox has a known limitation (or feature, depending on your point of view): it will invoke only the specified JRE version requested by the E-Business Suite, even if later versions of the JRE (e.g. 1.6.0_03) are installed on the same desktop.

This behaviour is explained in more detail in Note 290807.1 in Appendix A. Since this behaviour is hardcoded into Firefox, your options are:

1. Configure your Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 environment to request a later version of JRE installed on your Firefox-equipped desktops

2. Use IE -- it doesn't enforce static versioning.

3. Contact the Mozilla team and request that they provide a new option to use either static versioning (the status quo) or the latest JRE version installed on the desktop.


I think it would be great if someone had the time to go in and post accurate info rather than that. And, what's more, Sun and Oracle have never been fans of MS software, yet they are encouraging people to go with IE!

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to addons
2.Tell firefox to get Java addon
3.Install addon
Restart
Get told it is out of date, wil be uninstalled on next restart
Restart
You are now back where you started


Expected Results:  
Installed a current version that worked

There are 2 things:
there is a "java Console addon" that the JRE installs and which provides a java Console menu entry in Firefox

and there is the Java plugin (version JRE1.5 U20 is the latest). 
Gecko1.9.2 (FF3.6) requires JRE1.6U10 or later because Sun and Mozilla switched to a new plugin.
You can disable older installed JRE installations in tools/addons/plugins if you only want the latest java plugin active.

It's all up to SUN what the Java plugin or the additional addon is doing.
It would be for example not a problem if the java plugin would use a different JVM.
I don't understand your issue or better what you expect that we fix on our side.
