For months now, when I'm prompted to dl updates for Firefox, it tells me it cannot find the license for it. these updates *used to* work seamlessly and given I'm no tech geek, I'm not able to figure it out.

Reproducible: Always
rob, the other reports have ended up as incomplete or works for me. perhaps PW can provide more information here?

PW | vrooomie : ping? Can you provide the data that Rob asked for in comment 2? Thanks!
HaVE NOT HAD TIME AND AM NOT SURE i KNOW EXACTLY WHAT TO DO! yOU REALLY, really NEED TO DRAW IT UP AS IF i WERE A 5-YEAR OLD, WHICH FOR THIS PURPOSE, i AM!
The steps in comment #2 are explain it pretty well already. What specifically in the steps in comment #2 are you not sure how to do?
Note: Firefox does not require a license file so this indicates some other program is interfering with the updates. We hear about this specific complaint reasonably often but I don't think we've figured out which software causes the problem. Rob is hoping the update logs will tell him which file is causing the problem.

If you are unable to get those files you still may be able to fix the problem (and we'll have to close this bug as unsolved since we won't know the actual cause--it may come back). Many people have had luck completely deleting their Firefox installation and then reinstalling. You can't just "uninstall" it since that will only remove the files we know about and the problem is with some change some other program made to Firefox.

If the support answer above is not detailed enough the support folks can help out at that site.

But if you can figure out how to get the files Robert is asking for that would really help a lot.
Summary: Continuing inability to update Firefox → Continuing inability to update Firefox ("license file not found")
Bug 576939 makes it so we should no longer try to show the license page if there is an error. After Firefox 3.6.9 is available please install it. If you have trouble updating to the 3.6.10 after it has been made available please file a new bug with the new details. Since the code / behavior has changed significantly for 3.6.9 the info in this bug won't be of much if any help so closing as incomplete.
