In Netscape 6.0 build id = 2000101301 with Intel Solaris 2.8. 1. User loged into mail system. 2. Edit -> Mail/News Account Settings -> Outgoing (SMTP) Sever -> "Always use name and password" = checked. 3. User received new messages without "Netscape User Prompt" dialog and "Password Entry" dialog prompt to ask the correct information first. It should have dialogs prompt for correct user information then download new messages.
Huh? what does smtp have to do w/ mail retrieval?

This is invalid. The SMPT "Always user name and password" option is for sending mail. It has nothing to do with getting new messages. Please reopen if I have misunderstood something about the situation.

Shirley, if you want to test the password for Get Msg, check the box in the password dialog "Use Password Manager to Remember this Password". To test the setting you have in your scenario, you need to connect to a SMTP server that supports Authentication. Per scenario, verifying this as invalid.
