binding ctrl-delete or something sane like that to "delete thread" would help the
usability of mailnews quite a bit

recommend wontfix, but cc mpt for opinion.

Nah. The cost-benefit ratio is too high, IMO.

The cost is the risk of deleting a large number of messages if you accidentally
had the Control key down when you went to delete a single message. As for the
benefits, this would only really be of use if you were subscribed to high-traffic
mailing lists. Even then, you could use either (a) the keyboard shortcut for
select thread (is/will there be one?), followed by Delete, or (b) Shift+Down to
make an extended selection in the thread pane, followed by Delete.
I'm marking WON'T FIX. Don't sue me ;-).

VERIFIED, this idea seems too dangerous.

I would also like this. It need not be the default configuration, but it would
be useful if the user could make this work somehow.

If there is a way to map a key combination to a sequence of key combinations,
perhaps the user could do: "control-delete = shift-down, delete".
