Could not properly save a Word document attached to an email message in gmail + hotmail

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Gmail account
2.  opened email with Word attachment 
3 [review]. "download"
4.  selected "save file"
5. onscreen message at the bottom of the page "done"
Actual Results:  
Where did the file save?

Expected Results:  
Wanted to chose location where file should be saved, that was not an option. Also, I could not figure out where the file was saved. Dumb user error? Usability issue? mystery 

Note #1: I am using the "pebbles" theme in gmail

Note #2: I tried the same steps in hotmail (same email message). This time the onscreen message at the bottom was not "done", but "javascript:;" 

Note #3: I am on Windows 7 "light", not the full version

Wow. Sorry. Dumb user error it is. "show download window" was unchecked. Thank you for the tip.
