This would be really helpful for me.

I ran into the same issue: I had installed a client SSL certificate that gave me access to an administration interface of some website, and later on created a new Firefox profile (old one was... well, old and crippled), and used Firefox Sync to get most of my important stuff back. Obviously, Sync didn't consider the certificate as important ;)
It would be super awesome to have this feature. I use ssl client certs pretty much anywhere I can and it is a lot of work to import them all in my profiles and different machines. Also I need to transfer them first, and if I forgot to do so I sometimes find myself without the cert to some admin panel or stuff like that.

Do, definitely +1 for this feature.
Be careful what you wish for.

Do you *really* want your private keys sent to a remote server?

I'd love client certs to be more usable, but the solution isn't for mozilla to store my private key (especially not by default).

If I use sync, I already trust mozilla with my passwords (or in my case, I don’t, which is why I run my own sync server) and I think for most users, including me, passwords are much more sensitive than private keys are.
