I've been seeing this on and off and finally caught it in a debugger. No window had appeared yet; this is pretty early on in the startup process.  Backtrace attached.

unable to find an example of this on crash-stats via spot checking. No Mac trunk crashes in last several months. The more common stacks (windows of course) are like...
