If you go to http://www.ebay.co.uk the PC hangs, even if you manage to close the page/sea-monkey before the controls freeze.

Other sites include msn.com and many pages on www.wikipedia.com.

Occurs with all plugins/addons disabled and Java/JavaScript disabled.

Has been seen for at least the last 3 versions.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open browser
2. Goto http://www.ebay.co.uk
3. O/S HANG
Actual Results:
O/S Hang requires PC power button reboot.

Expected Results:
Displayed the page and carried on.

Done this now at least 40 times in the past 2 months. No. of sites causing same problem beginning to increase... 1st ebay then msn then wikipedia now some games sites a well.

Have no idea if it is a security problem.
I'm sorry but a usermode application like Seamonkey can't freeze or crash the
system. It can only trigger a bug in one of your system components like your
graphic card driver.
Seamonkey or any other usermode application can only freeze itself and you can
always kill the process with the windows taskmanager.

Today it happens with Seamonkey and tomorrow the same bug gets triggered by IE or Chrome. This can't be fixed in the application itself, the bug must be fixed in the system component that contains this bug.

I would try to update your video card driver from the website of the manufacturer like nvidia, ati/amd

I will have to mark this bug invalid because this is no bug in Seamonkey and
can't be fixed by us.

I am sorry but I have ssen this bug enough times to know that it is real.

Secondly, the same web sites do not cause this hang with,

Firefox 3.6.13
IE 6.0.2800.1106IS
Opera 11.00
and older (2years+) versions of Seamonkey - I upgraded sometime in 2009/2010 and its been there ever since.

This does not therefore sound like a video-card problem and I regard your remark as completely bogus.

I am a professional IT software/hardware developer/tester and I have seen such freezes in the past 10 years many times on other machines! So I am certain you statement is cobblers.

As a result of the manner in the reply above, I will never again report a bug to sea-monkey (or indeed mozilla). And I would recommend others to do likewise.
I'm sure that you know about http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_0 if you are a professional software/hardware tester ?
There are only one way how a usermode application can bring the OS in trouble.
Allocate all available memory, the OS gets slow with paging to disk and it can take a long time to open the windows taskmanager.

I'm sorry but it's not possible that such a bug can be fixed on the usermode application side.
