Build Identifier: Thunderbird 3.1.7

After updating from previous version to 3.1.7, my launch to inbox is now 6-8 seconds, almost 4 times slower than two weeks ago.  I switched to Thunderbird for its launch speed, now that disappeared.  Please advise.

was your upgrade two weeks ago from v3.1.6?
or version 2?

6-8 seconds is not super long for version 3, especially depending on your system and thunderbird profile. That said, these things can impact your launch speed:
* add-ons
* antivirus software monitoring  your profile directory
* large inbox or junk folders - minimize the number of messages there
* compact your folders on a regular basis
* periodically defrag your disk
* make sure you have enough memory
