Details
While using Fennec today, I got an extension failed to install message while not doing anything with extensions. In this case, there happened to be an error that occurred in the bootstrap code for the extension Phony. If an extension is being installed silently in the background, I think we shouldn't show any error messages. It's distracting.

Agreed. If we really wanted to convey a message, still, we could inline one in the add-on's row in the manager, the way we do during manual updates.

I think we need to show the error somewhere. Where did you see it? Is this an Android notification now? Showing it inline seems like the right thing to do. We put other status info there
