We'd like to create a poster and/or handy chotsky for our privacy principles. This will be used to roll out the principles to Mozilla employees and help everyone here continue to put them into action. A good place to see the principles is my blog post: https://firstpersoncookie.wordpress.com/2011/01/12/mozillas-draft-privacy-data-operating-principles/ It would be nice if we could have something for the all-hands, but it isn't required given the timing. I'm going to be hosting a series of group briefings where the poster and chotsky can be handed out.

Tara, I briefly spoke with Alex earlier and thought this would be a good project for Lee when he's back next week. If you agree, let's set up a meeting with us + Alex sometime soon...we can determine what's doable or not for all-hands then.

Here's some content to work with: - No Surprises. Only use and share information about our users for their benefit and as disclosed in our notices. - Real Choices. Give our users actionable and informed choices by informing and educating at the point of collection and providing a choice to opt-out whenever possible. - Sensible Settings. Establish default settings in our products and services that balance safety and user experience as appropriate for the context of the transaction. - Limited Data. Collect and retain the least amount of information necessary for the feature or task. Try to share anonymous aggregate data whenever possible, and then only when it benefits the web, users, or developers - User Control. Do not disclose personal user information without the user’s consent. Advocate, develop and innovate for privacy enhancements that put people in control over their information and online experiences. - Trusted Third Parties. Make privacy a factor in selecting and interacting with third parties. Additional content that could go on the back of the poster... Our objective is for the principles to guide organizational behavior and product decisions, by… - Shaping users’ experience and improving user/member trust - Integrating the principles into our online notices and brand messaging - Being creative in thinking about governance and accountable for privacy as individual employees and groups - Using technology to creatively support our efforts to live up to the principles - Guiding how we select and maintain relationships with third party service providers - Extending them to our recruiting, HR and finance practices to safeguard employee privacy - Refining and improving our principles as our privacy and security experience and capabilities mature
Hi Alex, You mentioned there were some old posters you worked on in the past, you could send to me. It would be great see those as references. Also, I'm not sure if we wanted to re-connect regarding the amount of copy going on the poster. The Additional content from Comment #3 seems like it might be overkill...?

Agreed. lets try and finalize copy and design direction this week so that we can find a solution and knock this out quickly. Alex, can you provide an update on the timing again please?

Hey Alex, In the interest of moving things along, here's what we're proposing: * A canvas size like the Gran Paradiso poster (smaller than the various posters we've printed lately - I can show you in person) * Visual design to echo the mozilla.com design language. * Preserving pretty much all the text you provided - but adding style and color to make it friendly and easier to digest. Two sides, or potentially all on one side. * Lee is going to try and mock something up by end of day today to show you.

Hi all, Here's a pass at the poster in 11" x 17" Let me know what you think!

First reaction: It looks FANTASTIC. I like how Privacy Policy is muted, but perhaps it's a little too muted? overall though, love the colors, the bold type, and general layout. For a text heavy poster... it's beautiful.

Actually.. I think the header and the dotted lines could be a bit more visible :) but overall, it rocks. Alex, any additional thoughts here?

Thanks Lee! Alex, for what it's worth... viewing the attachment on your laptop vs. the big monitor can make a huge difference due to the color calibration. That's partly where my feedback came from before.... so, just something to keep in mind. Lee, I think these look awesome :)

My comments were lost due to mid-air collision and I didn't know that I needed to resubmit them. Poster looks good and is very readable, but here's a summary of the three items I would like to see incorporated: 1) Experiment with dark color other than black, given the stark, ominous and "privacy is a serious topic" connotation. 2) Create a more people-oriented connection to the topic through the use of a graphical element. 3) Remove the "and" from the header.

Thanks for the comments, all. Alex, I think we're in a better spot now, with most of your concerns being met: - Lightened the background gradient and changed the color of PRIVACY PRINCIPLES, giving the poster a less ominous feel than it previously had. - Removed "and" from header - I tried to use one of our website characters, but John pointed out that our illustrations are associated with specific ideas or features of our products, and may not necessarily fit with the Privacy message. In the end, it felt a little forced so I'd like to suggest we leave the poster as graphic type.

I agree that keeping it as graphic type is best. The general style/look and feel we have here and the website illos are different, so it's not going to look right if we put a character on this.... I also think that the fun type and array of colors really help to make the design look more fun and not as "dark" - despite the dark base.

I like this latest rev a lot. My preference is to call this one finished...if we need to adjust later we can always come back and do so, but this seems done for now. Alex, agreed?

Thanks Lee. Alex, PSprint.com is an online print service that we've used quite often. I think it would be a good choice for this project. You just have to pick your product, canvas size, and upload the print-ready file that Lee shared. I would also recommend asking a sample proof to approve before doing final print. Enjoy! Looking forward to posting these up.
