We'd like to rename dev-accessibility@lists.mozilla.org to accessibility@lists.mozilla.org. This will make it more clearly a community channel where non technical discussions can happen.

Our accessibility technical discussions can continue to happen on the main platform dev list.

It would be neat if any messages to dev-accessibility@lists.mozilla.org would auto-reply with a notification and new list sign up info.
Really how much do you want to do this? :-)

Because the list, the newsgroup and the Google Group are all tied together, this means that we'd have to move both of those too - which is basically equivalent to deleting the old one and setting up a new one. Which would be bad for archive searching, and require people using either of those media to resubscribe to the new group.

Gerv
I did think about this, but I think it is worthwhile. Can we keep the old archives?
justdave?

Gerv
yes. The Google Group won't ever go away (it'll just stop letting people post)
It's possible davidb might mean "keep the old archives in a way that makes it look like they are part of the new group". Is that possible?

Gerv
If we do it in mailman, we could pull that off. no way to do that on news.mozilla.org or Google though.
This is on justdave's plate to confirm it's technically possible, and then either to do or to pass to server-ops.

Actually... maybe easier and just as useful for our needs... can we just add accessibility@lists.mozilla.org as an alias for dev-accessibility@lists.mozilla.org. Is that tricky?

No, that can easily be done.

Done.

can we get accessibility@lists.mozilla.org setup please

to goto the dev list

That was what happened in comment 9 I think.

Justdave, note in my test I got a reply:

[begin]
Your mail to 'dev-accessibility' with the subject

   accessibility@lists.mozilla.org

Is being held until the list moderator can review it for approval.

The reason it is being held:

   Message has implicit destination
...
[end]

Is there a way to avoid this?

After further consideration, I think we should move to having two lists.

1. accessibility@lists.mozilla.org - where anything goes
2. dev-accessibility@lists.mozilla.org - will evolve into developer only discussion

So we need to undo the alias.
File a new bug, please.
