This problem continues with version 4. You open a link in a new tab and suddenly you are help captive. You try and close the tab and get a pop-up windows asking you to confirm you wish to leave.... even when you have pop-ups turned off. I am never sure if it is ok to close. Other times, the new tab takes over and you cannot close until you let the process complete. When I click on the "X" in the tab I want an immediate close of all processes. No pop-ups, no waiting for the processes to finish and not a complete close of the system. I want to kill it now! Surely this is possible...... BTW, I am frozen now as I type this. Well actually, not frozen, just clicking on the "submit feedback" button does not work.

Could you see if the issue occurs if using Firefox in safe mode:

How about with a new, empty testing profile? (Don't install any addons into it)
