User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:2.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:2.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0

In Firefox 4.0, when an alert message is shown, the background gets dark and the flash contents disappear until the alert message is dismissed.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to the test case: http://www.broadband-xp.com/test/firefox4_alert/
2. Click The button.
3.
Actual Results:
The flash contents ( yellow background in the test case) disapperas. When the OK button is hit and the alert message is dismissed, the flash contents reappear.

Expected Results:
Even while the alert message is dismissed, the flash contents should keep showing up themselves in the browser.

Actually, even though when the alert message is shown, the background gets dark, I do not think this feature itself is not necessary. What is this for? For security reasons or for the improvement of userbility?

WORK AROUND
set prompts.tab_modal.enabled to false
>WORK AROUND
>set prompts.tab_modal.enabled to false

I see. But this is not a workaround for me (at least).
I can not ask people to change their settings.

Why is ever the default settings of prompts.tab.enabled true?
The current design of the tab_modal prompts looks very ugly to me as some people point out in some web pages. I know the tab modal prompts enable us to switch to another tab even when the alert box appears on one tab.
This is sort of the intended behaviour. The choices without a huge amount of extra work are to hide the plugin or leave it completely visible without any sort of shading. I think hiding it is the best of those two options.

I understand what you mean but I think leaving the flash contents completely visible without any sort of shading is better, and furthermore wonder why shading of non-flash contents ever happens when the alert message shows. Is it essential for the tab modal prompts?

Benjamin Smedberg said that it was decided by Mozilla to fix this issue by removing the "windowed plugins" feature. Bug 1255021 comment 3. This is Wontfix now.
