I would like to request a design refresh of the "Mozilla Firefox" and "Mozilla" roll-up banners and horizontal banners. These banners will be used for future events by staff and volunteers.

The current Mozilla Firefox roll-up banner we have is 85cm x 200cm (same as the Join Mozilla roll-up banner) and looks like this: http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5023/5673482503_f2985ea8a1.jpg

The current Mozilla Firefox horizontal banner we have is 100 cm x 200 cm and looks like this: http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5064/5673428507_840fd83b28.jpg

The current Mozilla horizontal banner we have is 100 cm x 200 cm (same as the Join Mozilla roll-up banner) and looks like this: http://blogs.mozilla-europe.org/public/Frenchmozilla/.music_festival_pic_1_m.jpg

It would be great to create new designs for these dimensions since the current ones use an old logo and have lost their freshness. In terms of visual styles, I would make the following suggestions:

Roll-up banner for "Mozilla Firefox" and "Mozilla": I think we should stay aligned with the visual styles of mozilla.com and mozilla.org but remain as neutral and uncluttered as possible. I would personally go with just the logo, wordmark and the url at the bottom.

Horizontal banner: I think we should stay aligned with the visual styles of mozilla.com and mozilla.org but more or less stick to the same layout as the current banners.

Of course, these are just suggestions, I am totally open to other design suggestions.

Finally, in terms of source file format, it would be great to have the source files in SVG.

Thanks!
Thanks William. Good thoughts, and thanks for initiating this.

In terms of timing, is there a specific deadline (or event) you're shooting to have these ready by? Please let me know. I can have a designer work on these and will likely be a relatively quick turnaround time.

I agree that we should keep them relatively crisp and simple. Perhaps the lined blue texture at the top / bottom (similar to moz.com) and then a white background with the logo + wordmarks and URL.
Yes, that sounds fine!

In terms of timing, can we aim to have something by end of next week? I'd love to start production soon, considering it takes about 2 to 3 weeks from the moment I send the source files to the moment our printer ships them. We definitely have a lot of events on our radar for May and June.

Also, it would be great if we could create a poster version of these designs (same dimensions as the Firefox 4 posters).
OK. stay tuned.
Rhonda is going to crank this out. It'll be in illustrator (therefore scalable). She'll get to it by early next week.

Sounds good?

Sounds grrrrreeeat :)
Hey guys--
I dont have the most recent Mozilla Firefox 4 logo lockup. Can someone send me the version in Illustrator 4?

thanks!

coming right up.
hey guys--
The first proof for the 3 banners is here:

Let me know what you think.

:)

I think they look great.

I would only remove the "4" from the two first ones since these are banners we'll be using for at least the next year to come :)

Other than that, these three proofs get my vote!
Thanks Rhonda. My desired edits:

* The URL should be www.mozilla.org/firefox or simply mozilla.org/firefox not firefox.com

* Nix the 4 - agree with William

* Can we mimic the soft blue line texture and gradient on the site more closely? perhaps it's how the preview is showing them.. but it feels a little too much like blue stripes on my computer. Can we move them higher so it's more of a frame for the piece (like the website) vs. something that extends down ?

* how about www.mozilla.org vs. mozilla.org? having a big "mozilla" and a mozilla.org felt a little weird to me, personally. Thought the www. could help balance it out.
Thanks. Some further comments:

- looks like something is wrong with his fur on the back. Could the logo be reimported to fix that? specifically the red strands that stand out from the rest.

- can the wordmark be one color? We won't be using the 2 color wordmarks anymore. It'd be great if we could match the wordmark used top left of mozilla.com

- the links (firefox.com) on the banners would be great the same blue as the links on the site, which also matches the style in our videos.

- if we use "mozilla.org/firefox" on one, should we not stick with "mozilla.org" on the other one (without www)? that keeps in like with the current billboard usage also.
agree with comment #11
Rhonda is going to deliver this on Monday.
Hey Guys--
I revised the banners so that the gradient and stripes are closer to the site, and made the rest of the revisions per Sean's and Tara's comments.

Take a look and let me know what you think.

Thanks Rhonda. I'm having issues with Adobe and can't preview PDFs, any chance you can send me JPG previews?
Looks good to me. Perhaps, for consistency, we can move the link up below the wordmark on the vertical one. Otherwise, I'm OK with these. Others?
+1 here
Hey guys--
Here is that adjustment to the URL positioning on the vertical banner..

Let me know if we need to make any other adjustments.

Looks good to me. Sorry for the delay.
Any other thoughts? If not, lets wrap up.
ping :) Rhonda, could you please post the final files? Thanks.
Hey Tara--
The PDFs are here:

Sorry, meant to chime in earlier.

These look great. The only thing is that when i look closely, there are all these thin traces on the Firefox logo, as if it was unfinished.

Is that normal?

I see that in the preview, but those lines disappear in Illustrator. There was a great deal of rendering going on when opening... are these files being created in Illustrator or Photoshop? Might just be that they were saved without retaining Illustrator vector editing abilities in the PDF, but those should be retained for the printers.

But now that I've looked closer at the final files, there are other issues that arise as seen here: http://www.cl.ly/0x0i1M2j2t1Y2E2O2t0w

- hard edge lines on the bottom radial shadow
- an odd overlay swirl texture in the fur pattern
- overall high saturation

Here is an updated version of the Firefox logo in CMYK to try:

Hi Sean--
I created the banners in Illustrator CS4--the logo is a very complicated drawing, so if you created it in CS5, that might be part of the problem. I have selected all, opened the logo that you saved in CS4 for me, and pasted it directly into the Illustrator file for the banners that I created in CS4, so maybe that is the problem? CS4 may not interperet the CS5 created logo correctly, so my opening this new one in CS4 and pasting into another CS4 document may not solve the problem, if you see what I mean.

Im wondering if it would be better for you to open the banner files in CS5 and paste the new logos in place and resave? That would probably remedy the situation-- if that is OK with you?

Thanks Rhonda

Sean, I agree with Rhonda... I think it might be best for us at this point to handle the logo since there are so many nuances and details that Rhonda may not be familiar with. Our logo is pretty complex :) would you be able to help Ty make the update per your direction above? That would be great.
Sure.

Could we get a ZIP of the .ai or .eps files instead of .pdf? Illustrator editing capabilities seem to be disabled in the PDFs on the bug as the outline vectors aren't available.

That'd be ideal. Thanks!
OK they are up on the server here:

Thanks Sean (!) and Tara--sorry about the difficulties. Let me know if you need anything else for this.

No worries, Thanks Rhonda!

Ty/Sean, ball is in your court.

I appreciate you using "ball is in your court" instead of "puck is in your rink". It'll keep us focused.

As Canadians, hockey and hockey related talk tends to anger our blood. Recent events may have highlighted that.
Glad that worked for you. Happy to use any sports analogy that you wish. The birdie is back on your side of the net...
A short note here - we're working at refining the logo to remove some roughness and should have a shiny clean logo to add to these for Monday.

Sorry for the delay.
Ok thanks! If we can get the final versions in PDF by Monday, that would be fab!

Cheers!
friendly reminder that this is due today ;)

Files edited and ready to go!

- replaced logos with updated Fx logo
- replaced wordmarks with new Meta Medium wordmarks
- tweaked background gradient/vertical lines
Thanks Sean!
