My MacBook Pro (mid 2010 - 6,2) has a dodgy touchpad. For maybe 10% of the clicks I do with it, the click doesn't register. It's slightly frustrating. :) I checked with a local Apple service centre here in Auckland, and apparently it'd take 1-2 weeks after putting it in to get this fixed, and they don't loan out replacement machines in the meantime. Obviously I don't want to be 1-2 weeks without a computer. Is there anything I can do about this? (Or is it a minor enough problem that I should just live with it?) Thanks!

Only you would know that.
Unfortunately I don't think we have a inventory of spares in Auckland. I think the quickest "fix" would be for you to buy a MacBook Pro (expense it) and then hand in your current one to get it fixed.
When it comes back you'd have the choice of either swapping back or turning the now-repaired-laptop into the onsite spare.
Otherwise we can ship something from Mountain View but that'll take some time and isn't the most cost effective solution. Or you can wait until the September onsite and swap hardware.
Which is best for you?

Buying a new machine seems too extreme, especially since I've only had this one for 9 months and am not close to the normal date for getting a new one. Also I'm the only person using a MBP as their full time machine in the Auckland office at the moment, so it probably wouldn't get any use as a spare. If there are spares in the Mountain View office, then I'm happy to swap over when I'm next there. (I will miss the September all hands unfortunately, but I might be visiting the MV office in October.)

October's a long way out. It's your call if you can wait that long. I think we have at least some spare we can send you.

So actually I'll be in Seattle for a week late next month. Would shipping the spare up to my hotel when I'm there work? I'd take it back to NZ with me, use it while mine's being repaired, then I could bring it back to the MV office when I'm there in October.

Yes. When you have an address and it's closer to that time, we can overnight something.

Great, thank you. I'll update the bug once I've got a hotel booked.

Just wanted to confirm that the plan from comment 4 is going ahead, since comment 8 doesn't seem consistent with it. Once I'm back in NZ early August I'll take my current MBP into the local Apple store for repair, and when I'm in MV in October I will return the loaner.
