Steps to reproduce:

1.  Invoke Firefox 5 under Gnome 3 running on Fedora 15.
2.  Right-click on any web link near the top of a web page (e.g. in google.co.uk results)
3.  Locate "open in new tab" menu item at the top of the right-click context menu list 


Actual results:

"open in new tab" menu item at the top of the right-click context menu list is not visible as it is hidden by the new "Gnome 3/Fedora 15" black 'activities' bar at the top of the screen.
However, the "open in new tab" menu item is still active and can be clicked and activated even though it cannot be seen. The remainder of the context menu is visible and active as expected. This only happens if the context menu opens anywhere near the top of the web page and firefox sets the lower left corner of the menus box as the anchor point.


Expected results:

The right-click context menu should be defined as highest panel priority or highest level z-index for visibility, or the upper limit for top line of a context menu must be lowered to take account of the size of the "Gnome 3/Fedora 15" black 'activities' bar, or the threshold for "lower left corner" anchor point should be adjusted. I have described this as a firefox bug, as other applications like Thunderbird and Nautilus on the same platform do not exhibit this problem.

Yes, Firefox 17.0.1 under Fedora 17 (3.6.10-2.fc17.x86_64) still exhibits this behaviour.

If you run firefox, visit google.co.uk, run any search, select "Images" listing rather than "Web" listing, then right click on any first line image. You will find that the "Open Link in New Tab" menu item will be hidden by the Gnome 3 black 'activities' bar at the top of the screen.

The "Open Link in New Tab" menu item does have focus, as it is possible to left click on the Gnome 3 black 'activities' bar where the menu item should be, and the click will register and a new tab will open with the requested page. It seems that the menu list does not have priority for visibility with respect to the Gnome 3 black 'activities' bar.

I'm surprised that the context menu options upwards.  Usually it hangs downwards from the point that is clicked.  Do you have any extensions installed?

Do other apps open the context menu upwards?
And do their context menus cover the activities bar, or do they just not overlap the activities bar?

I've seen this as well when you make a misspelling with several option and the text area is near the top of the screen in Firefox and Thunderbird.
