User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:5.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/5.0
Build ID: 20110615151330

Steps to reproduce:

1. Selected (highlighted) text in email window
2. Hit reply / reply-all

Actual results:

a. Compose window appears
b. All of the email is included, not just the highlighted (selected) section of the email in 1.

Expected results:

IMHO - Just the selected text should have appeared in the compose window a.

Works for me on Windows 7. Did you highlight just a single word or multiple?
By default, more than one word has to be highlighted for this feature to work.

Check the setting of mailnews.reply_quoting_selection for the basic feature and mailnews.reply_quoting_selection.multi_word to require multi-word selection.
Thunderbird > Preferences > Advanced > General, click "Config Editor" there.
Both options should be "true" by default.
I'm on Mac OS X 10.6.7 - I select paragraphs rather than specific words

Both booleans

mailnews.reply_quoting_selection
 and
mailnews.reply_quoting_selection.multi_word

are set to true.

Interestingly - my email/inbox is in conversation mode, and it (reply/reply-all) doesn't work on the selection... however ...

If I open the message outside of a conversation view (say "Open Message in new tab") then select/{reply|reply-all} then the selective reply works.

Seems to imply that the conversations mode addon is a influencing factor.

I have Thunderbird Conversations 2.0.4 BTW.

Let me know if there's more help/tests I can provide.
Hi,

This is a bug in Conversations, not in Thunderbird (one could argue about it, though). We're tracking this as <https://github.com/protz/GMail-Conversation-View/issues/174> on the Conversations bug tracker.

Long story short, we'd need to patch Thunderbird to make it cooperate more with Conversations, but I'm busy with other stuff right now, and this is not a top priority.

Thanks for reporting,

jonathan

Understood - relative to comment 4 - makes sense - Just FYI

Tested with Conv. 2.0.6 addon update - still broken

Also I mentioned this bug in the Moz. Labs Conv. Group:

Thanks for all your help and work.
Yes I know that it is still broken, as I said, I have no plans to fix this in the near future. It is likely to require heavy work on the Thunderbird side just to make this small feature work.
