(Whiteboard: [kb=1019628] )

When the Affiliates site launches, we should take down the Firefox download buttons pages on www.mozilla.org and redirect traffic to the new site.

This includes 9 .html files for different localizations and a bunch of images. The files can be browsed at:

http://viewvc.svn.mozilla.org/vc/projects/mozilla.org/trunk/contribute/buttons/

It may make sense to leave the image files for people using the code snippets on these pages on their sites instead of redirecting them since redirects add extra overheard, but we can sort that out when it's time to remove the pages.
Laura, please also add these redirects to an upcoming site release.

Hey Anthony - More redirects!

What will be the URL of the Affiliates website?

Also, do we have exactly the same images on the Afilliates side?
it will be affiliates.mozilla.org

Eventually yes, all the buttons will be available. Not all of the locales are live yet.
So I will redirect the page to the website when it is live.

And also open a new bug to redirect the images once all current locales are ok.
Redirect in place with r96633, pushed with r96634.

HTML files removed with r96636.

The redirect looks like it's only working for the /contribute/buttons/index.html page and not for any of the other button .html files that were removed. For instance, there's a 404 for this page:

http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/contribute/buttons/index.ko.html

Rik: any update on David's comment above?
Hey Rik,

Can you check on David's comment above?
Sorry I missed your first ping in the holiday break.

Fixed with r100054 and pushed to production with r100055. Should be live in 15 minutes or so.

To be a bit more explicit, this fixes URLs like http://www.mozilla.org/contribute/buttons/index.ko.html (notice the lack of en-US) Those are the original URLs of those page.
Component: www.mozilla.org → General
Product: Websites → www.mozilla.org
Can we delete this directory from SVN?
Flags: needinfo?(dboswell)
I don't know if that directory is still needed.

Are there any old Firefox 4 buttons still active that would be looking for these files?

Probably a call for Chelsea.
Flags: needinfo?(dboswell)
There aren't any Firefox 4 buttons active. I believe all those have been re-directed to the existing affiliates site. I'm fine with taking these down, but I think it's actually a call for Laura Forrest as she's the PMM on Firefox Desktop.

Great. Laura, we'd like to delete this content. Do you have any questions before we do?
Flags: needinfo?(lforrest)
Barring any immediate objections, we'll delete all content in http://viewvc.svn.mozilla.org/vc/projects/mozilla.org/trunk/contribute/buttons/. Reopening this bug until it is done.

I'm not clear on the technicalities wrt what's being deleted, but have no objections so long as this deletion of this content won't hurt traffic to, or the user experience on, mozilla.org.

Please move forward with deleting this content from SVN. Adding to kanban board.
Noticed something here. There was talk (in comment 0 and comment 6) about redirecting the images so that they remain available. It appears this was not done, so removing the buttons/ directory will make the images unavailable to third-party sites that are currently using them. Is this intended?
Flags: needinfo?(jbertsch)
I think we have confirmed to the best of our abilities that no one is (or should be) pointing to these images any more. Please proceed with deleting. Thx.

Done with r117624.
