Steps to reproduce:

Attempt to drag a message from the inbox to a folder in the left pane.  Left click and hold on the message in the in-box; hold the left mouse button down while dragging the icon for the message to a target folder; release the left mouse button.


Actual results:

The folder which was intended as the target folder for the dragged message was instead itself moved to become a subfolder of what had been a sibling folder.  The message being dragged remained in the inbox.


Expected results:

The dragged message should have been moved from the inbox to the target folder.  The folder locations should have remained unchanged.

This only happens in the Windows versions of Thunderbird (6.0.1); never happens in Linux.  At first I thought this might be related to bug 668631, but that bug is marked as fixed in TB6, and the symptoms described there are at best a subset of what I have described here (it's not 100% clear what Thunderbird thinks it's highlighting when this happens, and there's no mention in that bug of folder positions being affected, only of messages ending up in the wrong folder because TB wasn't properly highlighting the target folder).

No. None of the Thunderbird bugs I reported were ever fixed, so I stopped using it.

I agree that the behavior I described is odd. If you find the description itself odd, feel free to come up with your own wording.

Perhaps  Bug 948082 / bug 458570.  If it's not that then I don't know what it would be - I don't recall anyone else reporting a folder moving during a message drag attempt. Because you are no longer using Thunderbird we essentially no longer have a working testcase to diagnose and find the cause in your case, so I think the only conclusion for now is the close this incomplete.

This may have been the only bug report for which I was the original reporter, but I contributed to several reports for other Thunderbird bugs, some significantly more annoying than this one. Since I gave up on Thunderbird years ago, it's immaterial to me whether this ticket is closed.
