User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:6.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/6.0
Build ID: 20110811165603

Steps to reproduce:

I have Firefox 6.0 set to automatically notify me of updates.

I have since downloaded 6.0.2 and installed it, but only after the scenario below.

Actual results:

When I accept the update the window cycles through: Connecting to the Update Server... while the status bar is still animated. I click on Hide and it does nothing. I click on the pause icon and it does nothing. I can only close the window.

When I use Help > About Firefox - it states "You are currently on the *release* update channel". If I close the Software Update window the information changes to show "Updates available at http://www.firefox.com + You are currently on the *release* update channel.

Expected results:

Download should start automatically and install 6.0.2.
Component: General → Application Update
Product: Firefox → Toolkit
QA Contact: general → application.update
I can confirm this for FF 8 on Mac OS X 10.7. I also tried setting up a SOCKS proxy to make sure it wasn't a firewall rule or similar on my network that prevented updater from connecting to the update server, but with the same result.
