Steps to reproduce:

With calendar entries one usually gets URLs in description field but they are not converted to links so one must copy and paste.

Maybe also useful in tooltips when hovering over events in calendar view.
Unfortunately a tooltip would vanish as soon as the node is no longer hovered. We'd have to change the tooltip semantics to only close when neither node nor tooltip is hovered.

I would be great to be able to click directly on links. Nowadays I have to open the event, select the URL manually with the mouse, copy and paste it into my browser.
It would be great to implement this feature, in order to optimize the workflow. Is there any plan on implementing this feature?

With the world going (and being for over a year) online this has probably changed from an 'enhancement' to a 'bug'. The ability to click an imported calendar event (Zoom, Teams, etc) is now mission critical for many companies. It can still be done via copy and paste (when you find the right part of the meeting message). Is the ability for the description of the event to recognise html / links very complex? I can programme in VB and it's quite straight forward. Happy to help.

This bug is 10 years old and is now more relevant than ever, since everyone is doing video meetings.

+1
This "enhancement" should clearly now be considered as a "bug".

Nowadays people are using video meetings on a daily basis, the ability to click on a link in the description is becoming mandatory.
The description area should be converted from raw text to HTML compliant.

BTW, this issue is verified duplicate of
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=706940
but should also probably by flagged as duplicate of

+1 I agree with Vousk-prod. It is very time consuming and annoying when you need to find links from invitations you got from external people.
In fact it is a completely no go that this bug is not corrected. It prevents me from further working with thunderbird.

In other clients, there's an option to use a modifier key in order to make the link clickable. It's probably due to security reasons, so that links won't be clicked by accident.

In TB, it can be done by adding CTRL as the modifier key, and when the mouse hovers over a clickable link, there should be a hovering pop-up that says something like 'Hold CTRL and click the link in order to open it'.
