Bug 338427 allows Firefox to use the correct language for the spellchecker, based on the 'lang' attribute.
It would be useful if bugzilla would set this attribute so that when typing a comment on a bug, it would automatically choose the English spellchecker.
I believe it's a WAI requirement to have correct lang attributes so this is probably going to get done in bug 252715. And bug 634310 already added the lang="en" on the html tag but is that enough for Firefox to determine the language of any textbox on the page?

One problem here is that users are free to use any language for their comments so it might not be right to always specify en for the comment textbox. It's not necessarily even tied to the template language used.

Exactly. For instance, I know one russian Bugzilla installation where all comments are in russian but the templates are the english ones. It's very common to use english templates even for installations which use other languages in comments.
