Hi there,

I often need to put one or more selected contacts in a plain text document, but, gosh, the Card Summary Pane doesn't allow to select text. So, I'd like to have a way to either:

a) export selected contacts as plain text or whatever method is available (included vCard, as per Bug #20304); or
b) open a text window showing a mouse-selectable plain text list of selected contacts; or
c) a) + b) ;-)

IIRC KDE's Kontact allows exporting selected contacts...

A possible way to implement b) for a *single* contact would be to show the selectable text version either:
b1) in an "All info" tab of its Properties; or
b2) as an alternate "Text view" (button to switch) of the Summary Pane.

Cheers,

See:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/select-address-book-text/

for the Select Address Book Text extension, which allows for copying selected fields to the clipboard. In case Craig hasn't incorporated the SeaMonkey-specific changes to the package as yet, the latest modified version is located here:

This RFE does raise some additional points concerning text export from the address book, however, beyond the single field method offered by the extension.

Thanks Lewis. This does already a nice job! A "copy all fields" option in the summary pane, and a "select + right-click -> export" option would make it perfect for me :-)
Glad I could help. I bumped into this extension a few months ago when I had exactly that need (to get a contact - in its entirety - out of my address book to put into an OpenOffice document). I'll pass along your thoughts to Craig; good suggestion!

So, as this is somewhat addressed by an extension, should we close this bug as WONTFIX?

Cheers
